Families with one child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are at 10 to 20 times increased risk of having a second child with ASD. A sibling screening programme at KKH, BabySibs – Autism Screening Service in Singapore Toddlers (B-ASSIST), is providing screening for autism for younger siblings of children diagnosed with ASD, to enable early detection and intervention. The programme assesses siblings using three different modalities of screening at 12, 18 and 30 months of age. B-ASSIST is run with support from Temasek Foundation, and aims to establish a structured community-based screening model for ASD in Singapore in the long term.
