Childhood Cataract

Childhood Cataract - What is it for

Cataracts occur when the natural lens in our eyes becomes cloudy.

While we hear of cataracts in elderly seniors, they can occur in children as well. But childhood cataracts are rare, occurring in up to 15 per 10,000 children.

They can affect the development of vision in children, and often requires early treatment. Delay in treatment can result in amblyopia (lazy eye), squints (eye misalignment) or nystagmus (shaky or wobbly eyes).
