What side effects can Rituximab cause?

Early side effects

  • Mild nausea and vomiting may occur
    There are medicines available, which may prevent or decrease these side effects. If you are given these medicines, take them as directed.
  • Fever and chills
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Joint and muscle pain or weakness.

Delayed side effects

  • A drop in the blood cell counts may occur 7 to 14 days after treatment
  • Temporary hair loss may occur several weeks after treatment
  • Swelling of fingers, feet or lower legs

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Fever of 38°C or higher
  • Sore throat, cough or mouth sores
  • Painful or difficulty in urination
  • Skin rash, itching or unusual redness
  • Fatigue, lightheadedness, or palpitation
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising, or black stools
  • Shortness of breath
