I am a consultant medical oncologist with a collection of pink tops in my wardrobe, because raising breast cancer awareness is a huge part of my job. Blue is still my favourite colour.
I have always wanted to be a medical oncologist even before enrolling in medical school. I was motivated by my family, especially by my grandfather’s journey with terminal lung cancer.
I am gratified to be able to apply exciting advances in therapeutics and the art of medicine in my daily practice; making meaningful impact in my patients’ conditions and their lives; and developing deep patient-doctor relationships.
As one of the co-Chairperson for the National Cancer Centre Breast Cancer Awareness Month Committee since 2018, I have been championing NCCS’ efforts at increasing public awareness of breast cancer, prevention and screening, and supporting breast cancer patients and survivors.
The pandemic posed daunting challenges to everyone, not the least patients with breast cancer and their caregivers. In October 2022, we organised a series of in-person workshops for our patients to celebrate life and living, learn a new art and craft, make new friends and good memories.
