Robert Loh Associate Professorship in Ophthalmology

Dr Robert Loh’s contributions to the field of Ophthalmology in Singapore have been immense. With just a small department consisting of a handful of Ophthalmology trainees, he groomed and trained numerous expert eye surgeons within a decade and further instituted in them his ideals and values in patient care, regardless of their social status.

Today, Singapore Ophthalmology has a global, leading reputation as a centre of excellence with great credit from giants such as Dr Robert Loh. We must and will continue to uphold his vision, dedication and legacy, and the Robert Loh Faculty Professorship in Ophthalmology provides such an opportunity.

The Robert Loh Faculty Professorship in Ophthalmology was set up with the aim of recognizing and retaining outstanding faculty and strengthening the faculty pipeline to engage early-career and mid-career faculty. This faculty professorship will be awarded to a (regular-ranked) Associate Professor or Assistant Professor who excels in their academic pursuits and are able to demonstrate great potential in becoming international leaders in their fields in the near future.

This faculty professorship will support the named holder to pursue ground-breaking research and innovation such as research and development projects, programmes, research support resources including manpower, equipment and any other operating cost to facilitate these activities; a series of lectures organised in conjunction with the Academy of Medicine, Singapore; and an opportunity to bring medical teams overseas, as part of the Duke-NUS students’ community services, and / or related humanitarian missions.
