Ciclosporin (Cyclosporine) - What is it for

Ciclosporin is a medication used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, nephrotic syndrome, psoriasis and other autoimmune diseases. It is also used to prevent organ and graft rejection during organ or bone marrow transplants as well as for certain blood disorders and skin disorders. It belongs to a class of drugs known as immunosuppressants, steroid-sparing agents or calcineurin inhibitors.

Ciclosporin works by inhibiting the production and release of interleukin II, a protein that regulates cell growth and differentiation and stimulates immune response. It also inhibits the activation of T-lymphocytes, which are white blood cells that regulate the immune response.
